The Golden Flower - ’til 3AM? Nice.
This is a real quick note, probably more or less an update to the original review I gave to the Golden Flower Vietnamese restaurant at West St. and 5th downtown. (For review, click here)
The nice part is, good food is available much later in the evening, to the tune of 3:00AM. Thank goodness there’s an alternative to the ethereal China Diner (of which I’m not a huge fan) and the Gold & Silver Inn (which I AM a huge fan). Whatever your preference, choices used to be a staple here in Reno, and time frames should not be something that hinders a late night urge to eat in downtown Reno.
They are featuring a “loose menu,” (the kind of menu that’s more of an addendum or insert to the original) with some Chinese-style fare as well, and this is in addition to the regular menu. Good, give China Diner a run for its money!
This was just a friendly update from your favorite Daddy Rodeo.
Lick your plates clean, kids.

My absolute favorite restaurant in town, great review! I almost always order the #22 (wonton soup) and a #128 (bowl of noodle) for my daughter and we share our dishes between the two of us - that’s what you see in the picture above, in take-out form. Greatest deal in town!

btw, we love the golden flower the best because their pho is chicken based instead of beef. Totally makes a difference in the taste! The pho joint @ shoppers square uses chicken too, but pho 777 downtown is all beef stock

Hello, Crafty Bean…
Thanks for the photo! Pho-to?
Anyway, yeah it’s pretty good place. I had no idea the stock was chicken-based, I always wondered why the other pho places had a darker-colored and heftier-tasting stock, apparently I like the chicken-based method better as well.
The funniest part of doing these reviews is everyone declaring what menu number item the like best, I never expected that. Strangely, because I’m such a huge tendon fan, and there isn’t a pho with just that. I have to order it like that. No number for me. :(
Thanks for the note!

Try number 7! I forgot the exact name–somewhere between beef stew with vegetables..only available on the special menu (after (930pm)–and get it with egg noodles!

I’ll try a 7, then! Thanks!

The #75 is my favorite
I was just in this restaurant last night, and don’t get me wrong I love this place, but not two tables away were these 14 year old girls who would not stop talking about how the other ones were dirty sluts, or snorting vicodin, or how the waiter is really “hot”, it made me want to unload an Ak-47 clip in their direction. Other than that, great place.

Joseph,
…perhaps much more to the point that the restaurant is welcoming to all rather than a select few (they probably didn’t employ said individuals to “entertain,” you…) and that desensitizing yourself to humanity is a preference to simply staying at home and talking to your Kalashnikov. PS– One Nevadan to another while discussing Vietnamese food: A “clip,” and a “magazine,” are quite different.
Raw ass and bad gas(oline),
