For at least the last six months, I have been putting up flyers and promoting Vanity Entertainment/Mixed Vibe parties, hosted by the flawless and fabulous Ashlee Stone, and the equally stunning Brian Aranda. They’re the ones with the saucy, professional flyers and near-perfect drive to getting things done around Reno in the area of party and entertainment.
My first show was the Massacre Halloween Party, which was fantastic. It was a mix of dance and performance, complete with go-go dancers, live DJs and surprise performances by Ashlee herself!
It led me to think, why not get to know these people? I mean, they’re probably working harder than any DIY duo in town, because believe me, putting on shows, getting dressed up as the diva, organizing the entertainment, the venue, the workers, the time, the flyers, the theme, the decorations (which, are amazing) the graphics… that’s a LOT of work.
I was recently graced with the time of these two, Ashlee and Brian, and I sat them down (more like, just begged for an interview with the Reno-famous pair and they wrote me back!) and asked them the TOUGH questions!

Ashlee Stone is Reno’s freshest new Diva (and yes, she’s a boy, just in case the vanilla sector is reading this), and has been working for the last four years to contribute not only entertainment, but charity events in the town. Brian Aranda is her partner in crime, a proud Reno native with many of the same goals as Ashlee!
Together they are Vanity Entertainment/Mixed Vibe. The goal of this project is to bring 18+ and 21+ parties and shows to the masses, which includes all walks of life, straight, gay, whatever. “Fun,” is the name of the game, and believe me, they have a good handle on getting it together! Though they are the backbone of the events, Brian is quoted as saying he’d like to go further with “…the help and ideas of everyone in the community [so] we can raise the bar.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
…but why Reno? It isn’t as if everyone is waiting in line to change Reno for the better. Brian brings up a good point, mentioning that as Reno grows, it demands more options for people’s entertainment. A quote from Ashlee herself sums up this idea on a more personal level, “I love Reno… Not too big, not too small. Helps me be closer to my family and in a community I really care for . Reno may not be where I am going to end up but it is an amazing starting ground for the world ahead.”
Spoken like a true Reno lover. Wisdom in a wig is worth its weight in diamonds, if you ask me.
The future for Vanity Entertainment/Mixed Vibe collectively are somewhat of a mystery, enigmatic, secretive, if you will. There’s apparently some buzz of something big coming to Reno, maybe something unexpected. If anything, keep your channel tuned to GHR for any word of what may be next, and if their dedication at parties is any idea, I have a feeling some more foundational fun is being laid out ahead of us. I guarantee that it’ll be something everyone can enjoy, since this seems to be a recurring thing with this pair. Networking, socializing, and ultimately having fun are key ingredients in their vision of a new Reno.

As for Ashlee herself, she’d love to take her Diva that she’s created and tour the world and bring her light onto as many stages and to as many faces as she can. She’d love to make drag and fasion something “cool,” for not just the gay/lesbian/transgender community, but the world as a whole, and especially to destroy the notion it should be looked down upon. She’s well on her way, if you ask me.

Did you know that Ashlee Stone has a condo just for her? No, I’m not talking about both her and her boy side, but just HER? That’s right, it’s a beautification playground just for her and her friends! I mean truly, if you can’t get it right, do it yourself, I always say! I imagine it is a wonderland of wigs, clothing, hot twinks wrapped in white linens, palm fronds and sparkling water, mineral baths, cucumbers over the eyes and foot massages… It sounds delightful. Daddy Rodeo needs a vacation, darling.
Brian seems to be very much interested in simply helping and managing Ashlee’s career and image do what it is supposed to: Amaze, entertain and get even better. I hope the guy gets a day off!
One of my BIGGEST wonders ever since I was blessed enough to start to get to know these great people:
Where on earth do they get their sexy dancers?

(My stars, that's some tasty stuff.)

I had at once thought they must be produced especially for Miss Stone and Mr. Aranda, perhaps genetically modified and formed in a factory. As it would be, like most things Vanity, it is a bit of a secret, but Brian did allude to the fact they come down from the woods to play exclusively at Vanity Entertainment parties… “…must be some scary twilight shit…” he tells me. Surely he’s joking…
…or is he?
I do hope I’ve shed a bit more light on the mystery of these big-hearted locals. I’m sure all of us at one time or another have seen the flyers, come across the images, maybe even overheard the gossip of something almost magical and secretive going on in Reno. Well, it isn’t a secret anymore. I emplore you to come to a Vanity Entertainment show at some point. The causes are good, the people are better, and the fun really is the top-notch best.
Their next show is on March 28th, 2009 at the Studio on 4th. Details are right over there on the left hand side of your screen, just click the bare-chested gentleman and he’ll show you the details… or just scroll below!
